We are More Than Just a Parks and Recreation Board

When you think about parks and recreation boards, you may automatically think of the people who determine when the municipal pools will open, when the city softball season will start, when the recreation centers will be open, and other things.

That’s where you may be surprised when you visit our website. The Parks and Recreation website gives you more information about the City of Burnaby than that which only applies to parks and recreation-related matters. For example, on this website you can find information on the Burnaby Village Museum, the Capilano suspension bridge, and the Gateway casinos. You’ll also be able to find information on the best places to eat or hoist a few glasses, as well as where to go for other types of entertainment. You might even be able to find information on cheap holiday rentals.

By now, you’re probably taking another look to make sure you have typed in the right URL, because you could swear you were visiting a tourism website instead of a municipal board’s website. But, don’t worry. You’re in the right place.

You may be wondering if there is any information included that would actually be considered as parks and recreation-related. There is. You can learn all about the beautiful public parks and gardens, as well as where to go to see some of the Burnaby Eco-Sculptures.

For a parks and recreation board to make such a bold move as featuring “tourist” information on its website takes a lot of nerve. When you think about it, though, it’s not such a bad idea after all. It gives the city a chance to showcase the unique things it has to offer, and doing so on a municipal board’s website helps it stand out among the crowd of website entries that one may have to wade through on a typical travel or tourist website.

Sometimes it’s a little bit more than just difficult bringing your kids on a vacation with you. When you visit a place it’s tough managing them and trying to have fun. You take your vacation because you want a break from your daily life and because you are hoping for a little relaxation but if you have kids you know that they don’t believe in relaxation. They usually don’t want to sit still. So how do you find the time to relax and let your kids have fun? Well if you spend any time in the city of Burnaby you’ll know that the two can be achieved and achieved with ease.

First of all this city is one of the best reasons to visit Canada. There are other cities that are more on the map than Burnaby but there are very few cities that are as rich and full of life and relaxation than this. It’s got great food and you can sample anyone of a million restaurants to find out but if you are looking to combine the family fun and relaxation that you so desperately crave then the goal for you is to plan a trip to visit the Burnaby Fraser Foreshore Park. This park is the ultimate in a what you need as well as what your kids want. The stream that is the heart and soul of this park begins all the way over in the Rocky Mountains and ends at the park. There is an amazing walk to take with the family and a golden opportunity to teach your children about the beauty and wonder of nature. And there is nothing better than that.

And just for the kids amusement you can take them to the playground. There is a pirateship there and they can take the wheel and find themselves steering the ships. You can also stand at the stream line with your fishing pole and see if you can get lucky enough to catch the fish you’ll be talking about forever.

Gazebos Provide a Venue for Relaxation

Do you enjoy sitting outside, just basking in the feelings that only nature can provide especially in Burnaby Parks? Do you also hate being eaten alive by insects, drenched in rain and battered by the sun, while the grass gives your skin a uniquely itchy feeling, and ants decide that you are a fun mountain to climb? Well, those are just natural parts of being in the great outdoors, aren’t they? And yet, those are a few aspects of the outdoors that just never seem to find their way into all the faux poetry that people hash out, when it comes to being outside even if they are enjoying the facilities. There are no perfect conditions, no matter what anybody wants to pretend.

The outdoors has one major problem with it – you have absolutely no control over the weather, and it is likely to never be completely ideal. The Sun is either hidden behind a cloud, casting a dingy gray over the horizon, or it is pummeling you like you owe it money. There are bugs, there are random winds, and there are showers which just appear out of nowhere. Since there are never going to be ideal conditions outside, you need to deal with this fact by only partially connecting to it. Gazebos are a prime way of getting into nature without having nature whoop on you like the Native Americans did to Custer at Little Big Horn, and your Burnaby Parks have many of these gazebos.

A gazebo is great because the huge gusts of wind can be tempered into small, gentle breezes. The Sunlight that was causing you to feel 20 pounds heavier and sweat despite not doing anything now gives you the bright illumination you need to get in some light reading. The bugs which were once the bane of your existence are now a few feet away – and even more so, if you have a screened in gazebo. And if it rains, you don’t even have to care.
