Modes Of Transportation By Air

The air was the last area of transportation that man could venture into. The fascinations of birds flying have always caught his attention. Ever since the invention of the airplane by the Wright brothers, air travel have picked up in a frenzy way. People started using this mode of transportation as it was the quickest way to reaching your destination. Some of the methods of air transportation were the hot air balloons and Blimps. These machines help transportation of people between longer paces through air. The preliminary mode of transportation was by the means of the hot air balloon.

A nylon material is filled up using air that is heated. This is attached to a basket called the gondola. The basket is made of wicker and is hung underneath the inflated balloon. The blimp is also like the balloon. This is filled up by helium gas that helps it to keep afloat because helium has lower density it helps in keeping the heavy mass afloat. The principle is same as to the children’s balloons sold in fairs and festivals. A motor is also used to drive the blimp forward. This was a favorite mode of transportation n the 40’s, especially during the Second World War.

With the passage of time the technology used for flying was improved upon and the usage of blimps for transportation slowly faded. In the present time, companies have to promote their products and are used as a billboard or sorts are using blimps. Even sightseeing packages are offered by using the blimp. Trains As A Mode Of Transportation

The train is an invention made by the later part of the 17th century by the discovery of steam engines. The principle behind this is very simple. Coal was used of burning and the heat generated from burning the coal was used water used to power turbines which used the steam .This was used to power the engine forward. This mode of transportation is used to running on tracks and is normally called rails. The transportation means are normally used for ferrying people and goods. This is followed by Russia and then Canada. Indian comes after China with 63,000 kms of rail network. The trains are used for transportation of different kinds of items. Category of Light Rail : This is referred to the kind of transportation that is used to ferry people in cities. They run on city streets. A streetcar, normally called a trolley is one type of light rail transportation. In the beginning, the streetcars were driven by horses. In the modern era, the streetcars used electricity for transportation purposes.

Another rail network found in most developed countries is the subway. They run on the street or underground. In countries like U.K where the traffic is very high and the space constraint on the ground exists, the underground option is used for transportation of people. Transportation By Sea From The 17th Century

Since the invention of canoes, small boats kayaks etc man had always wanted to transfer huge quantities of materials and other types of goods for trading purposes. This would enable him to create more wealth. Even today, the same principle of transportation follows. The biggest source of trade is the sea route. It is way above the other means of transportation like roads and air. The following are some of the modes of transportation and their evolution by using the sea route:

Small and large boats that use motors or sails for its movement, Apart from smaller versions of transportation like the canoes etc, these categories of boats use a different kind of power. A normal sailboat uses fabrics or sheets of canvas called sails. The wind pushes the sails forward, which propel it forward. In the ancient civilization, the Egyptians used the boats to ship huge granite stones to the location of the pyramids.

The motor boat is a newer invention after the discovery of the diesel and steam engines. Energy from burning the coal is used to heat water and the steam that is generated from it is used to propel the turbines, which in turn propel the propellers. In the turn of the century, motors started getting into use for this purpose of transportation. An electric motor is used for driving the propellers in a motorboat. The use of a propeller is for moving the ship forward through water. A speedboat is the smaller cousin of the motorboat and is very fast in means of transportation.

Military and coast guards who venture in the sea for rescue mission or for defending the country of any intruders normally use these speedboats. Another category of ship is called the steamboat. This is used for passenger transportation for shorter distances. An engine that is powered by steam powers.
