Vancouver, British Columbia was the most recent home to the 2010 Winter Games. Many have traveled here and many more will follow. After all, they didn’t have the games here for no reason! The area offers superb skiing and other types of recreation both winter and summer. So what does Burnaby have to do with all that? It is probably the best place to stay to see it all and still enjoy the possibility of a peaceful, restful vacation.

Burnaby is only 15 minutes away from Vancouver via the Sky Train rapid transit system. It is located just over 100 km from the world famous ski resort at Whistler.

Burnaby offers its own enticing attractions such as Deer Lake Park, Burnaby Mountain Park, Shadbolt Centre for the Arts, Burnaby Village Museum and Simon Fraser Art Gallery. You can also thrill at the multiple zip lines at Ziptrek!

If shopping is your thing you’ll love Burnaby as it offers the largest shopping mall in B.C. as well as others in each of the four sections of the city.

Burnaby also offers easy access to all of Vancouver’s multiple venues. You can take of on a Harbour Cruise to watch whales, rent a bike at Bayshore Bike rental to tour Stanley Park which is only two blocks away. Just outside of the well known Vancouver, British Columbia is a quaint place called Burnaby. Here you will find modernization as well as the great antiquity many like to enjoy while on vacations elsewhere.

A great place to stay is the Haddon House Bed and Breakfast. It is located within walking distance of beautiful Deer Lake. It is a Dutch Colonial heritage home that was restored in 2007. It offers all the charm of the past with the convenience of modern amenities.

You’ll surely want to visit the Burnaby Village Museum during your quaint stay in Burnaby. The museum takes you back to life in the 1920′s. You’ll be able to take a ride on the restored Interurban Tram or on the 1912 CW Parker Carousel. You will want to visit the blacksmith shop, the print shop and the garden at the local farmhouse. You will also find a great General Store. If you are there during Christmas time you will surely see some fantastic heritage celebrations.

When you leave the museum you can venture over to Deer Lake Park to enjoy old fashioned recreation on the lake with a canoe or kayak. If water doesn’t interest you, maybe you can catch a concert at the natural amphitheater that you will find there. They host everything from Bluegrass to the Symphony.

You can go to the coast to visit creatures which have been fascinating visitors for ages. You will often see a family of Orca whales frolicking in the ocean and recently they have a couple of new additions.

To finish off your quaint trip you can don your best dress and head out to the Shadbolt Center for the Arts to enjoy an ol’ fashioned play. Many classics have been performed here including Sound of Music.

Regardless of your choice, you can’t go wrong with touring Burnaby and nearby Vancouver.
